The 9-Box Assessment tool in HRplus evaluates employees based on their performance and potential. HR sets up the criteria for both dimensions, typically using performance appraisal scores for performance and a combination of manager assessments and 360-degree feedback for potential. The system then calculates scores for each employee and places them in the appropriate quadrant of the 9-box grid, providing a visual representation of talent distribution and guiding development strategies.
Managers play a key role in nominating employees for the talent pool. When HR initiates an Employee Assessment event, managers select employees within their departments, particularly those in critical roles or showing high potential, and complete their assessments. After the assessment is completed, employees are automatically added to the talent pool for further evaluation and development.
Archiving 9-box results preserves the existing calculation for historical reference but removes the employee from the current talent pool. This is typically done when starting a new evaluation cycle or if an employee is no longer considered for succession planning. Recalculating, on the other hand, overwrites the previous results with the new calculation based on updated data, keeping the employee in the talent pool.
When a critical role becomes vacant, HR creates a record in the system, specifying the reason for the vacancy and the expected replacement date. The system then displays profiles of qualified candidates from the talent pool who have been linked to that role based on their skills, experience, and 9-box placement. HR can then review the candidates’ profiles and select the most suitable successor.
