Glossary of Leave Terms

A

Available from Leave Earned: Leave balance that can be used based on rollover balance, leave earned, minus leave taken, pay in lieu, and booked leave.


C

Calendar Setup: Configures leave policies based on the organization’s calendar, including workdays, holidays, and weekends.

Compensatory Time Off: Extra time off provided as compensation for working outside regular hours.


Cumulative/Vacation Leave Rules: Rules for leave that carry over from one year to the next; defines overrides at a generic leave type level.

Employee Off Days: Non-working days for calculating shift-based return dates.


Employee On Days: Working days used to determine return dates.


Entitled to Earn: Total leave an employee is eligible to earn in the current leave year for a specific type.

Late Records: Records of when employees arrive late.


Leave Booked or Approved: Leave that has been requested and approved.


Leave Calendar: Visual display of planned leaves to assist managers with coverage planning.


Leave Earned at Rollover: Leave carried over from the previous year.


Leave Earned this Year: Total leave earned by the employee in the current year.


Leave Entitlements: Number of leave days an employee is eligible for based on rules and policies.


Leave History: Record of past leave requests, approvals, and usage.


Leave Not Earned: Leave that cannot accrue under specific conditions, such as during unpaid leave.


Leave Not Earned Rules: Policies for when unearned leave can still be taken. Leave Overrides: Special rules for specific employees, overriding general policies. Leave Reset Interval: Frequency of leave balance resets (e.g., annually, monthly). Leave Rules: Policies for requesting, earning, and approving leave.

Leave Taken: Number of leave days an employee has used.



Leave Type Payment Rules: Payment guidelines for different leave types. Leave Types: Categories such as annual leave, sick leave, and maternity leave. Limit Accumulation per Year: Maximum leave that can accumulate annually.

Non-Cumulative/Non-Vacation Leave Rules: Rules for leave that do not carry over, such as bereavement leave.

Opening Balances: Initial leave balances at the start of a leave year.


P

Pay in Lieu of Leave: Monetary compensation instead of taking leave.


Post Leave Type Against Another: Using one leave type to offset another according to company policies.


Projected Leave Entitlements: Estimated future leave balances based on accruals and scheduled leaves.

Recalculate Leave: Tool for updating leave balances after adjustments.


Reset Leave Date: Frequency for resetting leave balances.


Return Date Parameters: Rules for calculating return dates after leave, considering weekends and holidays.


Rollover Balance: Leave carried over from the previous leave year.

Scheduler: Automates tasks like recalculating leave entitlements and posting transactions.


Self-Service Leave Requests: System for employees to request leave through HRIS.
